Guyanese Dillon Mahadeo has proven his class once again in the fitness arena at the Caribbean level by taking silver at the 4th annual Barbados IslandFit Games 2017 which concluded yesterday in the Land of the Flying Fish.
Back to back winner of the E-Networks Fitness Challenge (2016/2017) and a bronze medalist at the inaugural CrossFit 12-12-12 Throw Down in Trinidad and Tobago last year, Mahadeo missed out on the top podium position to his arch rival, Trinidad and Tobago’s Mattheaus Otero who also defeated him in the Twin Island Republic CrossFit event, last year.
Otero tallied 249 points overall from the events the athletes had to compete in (Water Event, Obstacle Course, Strength Workout of the day, General Work out of the day, Semi Final, Final) while Mahadeo accumulated 223.
Mahadeo commented on his performance: “I am happy to have competed amongst the fittest in the Caribbean and am pleased with my performances that led to the silver medal especially given the fact that the last I competed at this level, I placed third.”
Guyana’s other two participants at the Barbados event, Jamie Mc Donald and Christian McRae ended 19th and 20th, respectively.
Kaieteur Sport was informed that Mahadeo was in the first place after the first four events on Saturday and held that spot after the fifth event, yesterday but was overtaken by Otero in the final event.
McDonald injured his shoulder in the first event and never recovered but found the resolve to complete the first day of competition, Saturday. The Team Manager was Ms. Angelina DeAbreu.
