Bandits thrive on major events at Nat’l Stadium

While the police will be out in their numbers today to protect attendees at the Day of Appreciation for President Bharrat Jagdeo, the criminals are almost certainly hatching their plans to strike at the National Stadium, Providence.
Judging from recent events at the popular venue, the presence of law enforcement has done nothing to deter armed bandits who pounce on those who dared to attend.
The last two major events at the Providence Stadium, namely the Jamzone Regional Night and the Kares-sponsored Shaggy extravaganza were well attended, but this only served to entice the vulture-like bandits.
This was despite the organisers paying hefty sums for police protection.
There are reports that several persons were openly robbed at the Movado show and some patrons even lost their cars that were supposedly parked in secured areas.
But what took the cake was the robbery committed on the daughter of a government official who has responsibility for national security.
It was as if the criminals had no respect for the men and women in uniform, who were clearly visible but appeared powerless to stop what was taking place.
In one case it took the bravery of an off-duty police rank to ward off armed attackers after he and his companions had left the National Stadium.
For his troubles, the off-duty rank was stabbed in the neck with an ice pick.
While it is expected that there will be increased police patrols in the area, there is no guarantee that what has happened in the past will not repeat itself.
And what about the other areas that will be left vulnerable when law enforcement will be concentrated along the East Bank of Demerara?

IT LOOKS LIKE THE BANDITS ARE ONLY DOING WHAT THEIR POLITICAL LEADERS TEACH THEM TO DO.
