Bandits abandon getaway car after robbing Supply residents

Police are looking for two armed men who pretended to be customers at a shop in Supply, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and robbed two women of $20,000 and their gold jewellery. The incident occurred around 11:45 hrs yesterday.

Although information is sketchy, this newspaper was told that the men, who later abandoned their motor vehicle at Friendship, EBD, after being chased by police, managed to escape from the lawmen on foot.

The victims have been identified as Radika Sagar, 64, and Sharda Sagar, 37, of Lot 25 Supply, EBD. The older woman was robbed of $20,000 while the younger Sagar was robbed of her gold jewellery.

The two bandits reportedly went into the shop and pretended to be customers as they enquired about items that were on display.

After about five minutes, one of the two men pulled out a gun and robbed the women, after which they escaped in a waiting car.

The police gave chase but the men managed to elude them. They later found the getaway car at Friendship.

Investigations are ongoing.
