A so far unidentified bandit was on Tuesday morning killed during a robbery of a Cuban national at 176 Crown Street, Queenstown, Georgetown.
The News Room understands that the victim, a Chef, 33, returned from his Charlotte Street, Georgetown workplace at around 04:30 hrs with a taxi. Upon exiting the car, he opened the gate and walked a short distance to the El Sol Hostel where he resides.
However, upon reaching the entrance of the building, he felt a gun pointed to his neck and heard a male voice demanding cash and valuables.
The victim was thrown to the ground and struck to the face while the bandit managed to steal a cell phone, US$300 and an undisclosed sum of Guyanese currency.
At this point, a private security guard who is employed by the owner of the building emerged from inside the building.
The bandit reportedly pointed his gun at the security guard and attempted to flee but was shot dead by the security guard.
Police said the stolen item an unlicensed high point pistol with a live round were found at the scene.
A Police investigation has been launched into the incident while the body is presently at Lyken’s Funeral Parlour awaiting identification and post-mortem.
