Infrastructure development continues to be a top priority for the Coalition Government. This was the view expressed by Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo in an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI) on the sidelines of the 90th Sitting of the National Assembly today.

Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo.

Prime Minister Nagamootoo noted Guyanese have a sense of pride in the infrastructural development taking place around the country. “Infrastructural works in Guyana have taken a new dynamic dimension in the sense that in every community something is happening and there is new life in Guyana”.

The Prime Minister added that there is an infrastructural revolution in Guyana and a real effort to breathe new life in the construction arena of the country with the addition of new infrastructure where none existed before and to rehabilitate those existing structures that would have suffered neglect.

“Yes, I think the Coalition Government is fulfilling its electoral mandate and I say without fear of contradiction that this Coalition Government has delivered and will continue to deliver”.

The Prime Minister commended the Ministers and staff of the Ministry of the Public Infrastructure.

He also noted that the government, through the respective ministries, have begun to unfurl some of the capital project allocations that have been made; referring to the $9.7Billion West Coast Demerara Road Improvement Project which was commissioned yesterday.

The Leader of the Government’s Business in the National Assembly also highlighted that the four-lane road on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) is gaining momentum, while Guyanese are seeing improvements works and expansion on the Mandela Avenue.

He also highlighted that there is more involvement in the infrastructure sector from various communities and wider society, “whether is building a street, or putting up street lights.” He also noted that more indigenous communities are now linked by roads. “No longer we can look at Guyana as one that has several zones but Guyana is one Geographic area and Guyanese can look forward to more ideas and plans for more infrastructural development in the country.”
