Andrea ‘Padlock’ Green showed his mettle as he outsprinted rival Andrew Hicks in a ding dong battle to the finish line as they put a lock on the rest of the field in the Rose Hall Town Anniversary and Development Organization (RHTADO) 40 miles event.
The race, which was held on Sunday to celebrate the 47 Anniversary celebrations of the Town, was held in collaboration with the Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC).
The event which was for Berbicians only saw Green winning in a time of 1hr: 30 minutes from 15 other cyclists.
The race pedal off from the Anamayah Law Offices at Hampshire, Corentyne, around 09:00hrs with a rolling start.
The flag went down at Rose Hall arch with the riders proceeding to the No51 Police Station on the Corentyne before returning to finish in front of the Shaveh Night Spot, Restaurant and Bar at Rose Hall Town.
As the riders pedaled off, the lead was immediately taken by Balram Narine, however after a few miles he was roped in by a pack of riders. Green eventually opened a led, but was also caught after about three miles by Narine, Hicks and Jason Cameron.
At the turn back stage the pair of Green and Hicks began to make their move and stage a breakaway of their own, opening up a lead. They were never caught after that.
After a while it was soon a battle of who would win of the two.
However, it was Green that overpowered Hick in a fierce sprint home to the finish line.
Cameron rode home third with Narine forth and Odrel Ross Fifth.
Green took three of the prime point prizes with Hicks the other two.
The female event saw Shemika Teixeira as the lone participant.
At the simple presentation ceremony promoter Andrew Griffith of the RHTADO and other members handed over to the winners their prizes.
Griffith reiterated that the organisation is always willing to give back to the community in whatever way possible.
The event is part of two weeks of activity to celebrate the Town’s 47th Anniversary as a town.
Coordinator Randolph Roberts thanked the RHTADO for sponsoring the event and expressed the club’s gratitude to the organisation.
He reiterated his call for other entities to come on board and support.
Among the sponsors on board were Fiesta Guinness Bar and Night Club, Prophecy Sports Bar, the Regional Democratic Council, Godfrey Persaud Button Shop, Lewison General Store, Churches Chicken, Josh Babulall aka Moneychanger, Wynette’s Beauty Salon, Anamayah Memorial Hospital, Poonai’s Pharmacy and Circuit Centre General Store among others.
