An audit is needed on wealth accumulation of Govt. officials

Dear Editor,

At the rate some government officials are accumulating wealth, before this term of office is over, they will be billionaires in American dollar terms. Not too long ago, money disappeared from the scrap metal royalties – did the money end up in Dubai or a nearby country or in the US, UK, Canada?
I appeal to the Foreign Embassies in Guyana to please have an audit done on wealth accumulation of ministers of government and other high officials in their respective countries.

Is it possible to also find out how much wealth (properties, businesses, and cash) is stored in Middle Eastern countries where there is virtually no access to information? Secrecy of wealth, ill-gotten loot and money laundering are highly protected in the Middle East. Is Guyana’s wealth and gold money invested or stored in the Middle East? Is this why we are very cozy with Middle Eastern countries?

Once the information on wealth accumulation of government officials is obtained, can it be publicly released?

Yours truly,
Jillian Adams

Bidders to market Guyana share of crude oil China's Sinochem,Shell, Chevron, Petraco Oil, CNOOC, Vitol, Mercuria Energy, TotalEnergies, Equinor, Lukoil, Trafigura, Saudi Aramco and BB Energy.

With Saudi Aramco coming out ahead of 14 other companies that had bid for the contract to market Guyana’s fourth oil lift for the year, the Natural Resources Ministry has said that the State-owned Saudi Arabian company was the lowest responsive bidder.

On Saturday the Ministry confirmed that Saudi Aramco, also known as Aramco Trading Limited (ATL), was awarded the contract and assured that a transparent public procurement process was followed.

According to the Ministry, ATL was evaluated and approved to market Guyana’s fourth lift for 2021, which is scheduled for September 21-22, 2021. The Ministry also included a statement from Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat, who it said pledged to ensure the highest levels of transparency in the Ministry.

β€œThe evaluation process included administrative, technical, and financial assessments, which saw submissions from 15 firms. ATL was identified as the lowest compliant evaluated bidder at the price of $0.025 USD per barrel,” the Ministry said.
