Greetings. Following is a recently launched non-fiction work by Meenal Shrivastava, a Professor and Chair, Political Science, Athabasca University, Alberta, Canada. It is a tribute to thousands of forgotten women who, even when threatened with imprisonment/ imprisoned several times over course of time, relentlessly and selflessly contributed  toward the Indian freedom movement revolution. Interesting recommended reading and worth keeping in your library. Thanks and all the best.

Amma’s Daughters is a ground-breaking work of creative non-fiction that uncovers the story of Gandhi’s feminist foot soldiers. Meenal Shrivastava, the granddaughter of one of these revolutionaries, captures the courage of her grandmother, Shanti, as she joins India’s nationalist movement at the age of twelve and serves numerous jail sentences for political agitation (http://aupress.ca/index.php/books/120274).

Shrivastava offers a portrait of women committed to the struggle for freedom despite being burdened by oppressive cultural traditions founded on deeply patriarchal attitudes. This book reclaims an important part of India’s history and gives voice and honour to the hundreds of thousands of largely forgotten or unacknowledged women who, even when threatened with imprisonment, relentlessly and selflessly gave toward the revolution.
