President David Granger signs an Instrument of Appointment to swear in Minister Khemraj Ramjattan to perform the duties of Prime Minister in August 2018. [DPI photo]

The Alliance for Change (AFC) Friday confirmed that it had to accept less Parliamentary seats to secure a new Coalition accord with the A Partnership  for National Unity (APNU), but leader Khemraj Ramjattan said while it is a “come down” he does not feel weakened.

“I was not bullied nor did I bully,” he told reporters at the Party’s Railway Embankment office on Friday during a press conference.

It is now left for AFC to sign the accord with the multi-party bloc APNU and launch a joint campaign to contest the March 02, 2020 general and regional elections.

In the agreement, AFC will get the position of Prime Minister and four Cabinet posts. For the National Assembly, the position is a 30/70 one, which means 10 Parliamentary seats as opposed to 12 in the first accord.

“We are happy,” Ramjattan stated, adding that the party decided to accept a reduced role in a new Coalition government because “an agreement had to be reached,” with the party choosing to join with APNU again instead of going it alone.

Already hook up with APNU for the second round. I don't think the small parties will get many votes.

We shall find out.

Perhaps, the AFC finally have a little space on the floor to gather crumbs that fall off the PNCR table.

Me thinks some Ministry position gone [will have review the press conference ] , also they lost two MPs' . Don't think the AFC wants to tie bundle with the new parties , those parties may not pull many votes, they come too late .

Majority of  Guyanese voters are stuck voting for PPP and PNC ,they need to change their mindset .

Made the post below in 2015 , still waiting to see the changes !!! Notice a party with young people emerged , to close to election , they should have thought about years earlier.

I was always a PPP supporter until recently i withdraw my support,i back the coalition for one specific reason i detest one party rule in any country,it open avenues for authoritarian rule,Guyana politically is divided by thin line,i hope one day the people abandon the race based voting, show the two  dinosaurs who is the boss, the country need a new party with young blood who have visions to develop the country, too much old farts sitting around twiddling their thumbs and collect huge salary. The country will never see massive development not in my life time.I ain't no spring chicken.

The AFC is in survival mode after they saw  60% of their supporters jumped ship and swam back to the PPP. They can't go it alone in 2020 given the ostracism they're experiencing. Guyanese are tired of this regime mismanaging the economy, violating the constitution, and embezzling and much greater scale than we've ever known. AFC could not control the PNC nor influence their grassroots into pressuring the Grangers into steering the country away from the path of authoritarianism, racial bigotry, and gross corruption. The coalition have taken Guyana backwards and have our country more racially and politically polarized since the 1960s. It's time to free GECOM from APNU's control and make it independent once again. AFC is not the problem anymore since they are no longer a real force to reckon with. Their impact at the polls will be miniscule and even worse than the 4% they gathered at the last local gov't. elections.

We must call on the world to help us make GECOM a fair and unbias institution . Democracy can't grow if GECOM is under the control of the PNC>

Great idea.

WAS a great idea. Too late now.

Both of them will be looking at the same voters. Badal supporters are basically disenchanted AFC supporters. Badal will get those AFC people who did not like the stench of being allied to the PNC or who are disappointed with the party’s performance within the coalition. As I mentioned in another thread, too many small parties chasing the same votes, thereby decreasing the possibility of them even getting a seat. They will fade like the WPA and the Justice Party.
