AAG to hold its annual Nat C/ships

Event set for July 2 & 3 at Lenora

The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) will hold its (IAAF) approved Annual National Senior Championships on Sunday July 2 and Monday July 3 (Caricom day) at the Leonora Track & Field Centre from 09:30 hrs.

Along with the cream of the crop of local athletes from Linden, Berbice, Georgetown, East Bank, East Coast, while others from Brazil, T&T, Suriname, St. Kitts, St Lucia, Jamaica and Grenada will compete for top honors in the two-day event, which includes a fund raising B-B-Q.

Admission is free if you purchase a B-B-Q ticket for $1,000 and $500 without the B-B-Q ticket and the aim of this Event is to foster a good relationship among local and international club athletes, indentify the best athletes to represent the country at international meets and to have continuous developmental meets to assist in the improvement of the various disciplines in athletics.

The AAG had successfully hosted the South American U-20 Championships in which the host nation placed second out 13 countries with 25 medals.

In the 49-year history of these games this was the most medals won by Guyana who also performed exceedingly well, at the recently held Carifta games in Curacao they captured 11 medals including five Gold.

Some of the events carded for this holiday weekend are the men and women 3000 meters steeplechase, Men’s and women’s 100 meters dash, men’s and women’s 400 meters dash.

The afternoon segment on Sunday will commence at 13:00 hrs, while on Monday the action will start from 11:00hrs with the afternoon events commencing at 14:00hrs.
