A 9-year-old applied for a job at NASA — and got a heartfelt response

You're never too young to shoot for the stars ... even if you're barely tall enough to ride Space Mountain.

Just ask 9-year-old Jack Davis, who spotted a job opening at NASA on Thursday and decided to throw his hat in the ring. The New Jersey fourth-grader sent the administration a handwritten letter explaining his prodigious qualifications.

"I may be nine but I think I would be fit for the job," the letter read. "One of the reasons is my sister says I am an alien." (Always good to offer potential employers a reference!)

"Also, I have seen almost all the space and alien movies I can see," Davis wrote. "I have also seen the show Marvel Agents of Shield and hope to see the movie Men in Black. I am great at video games. I am young, so I can learn to think like an Alien."

He signed off, "Jack Davis, Guardian of the Galaxy."

Well. We don't know a human or alien who wouldn't be charmed by Davis' passion and drive.

While NASA wasn't quite ready to offer Davis a $124,000 salary, they did send him a letter further explaining the role and urging him to keep the space dream strong.

"We are always looking for bright future scientists and engineers to help us, so I hope you will study hard and do well in school," read the note from James L. Green, director of NASA's planetary science division.

Green explained his encouraging response in a press release. "At NASA, we love to teach kids about space and inspire them to be the next generation of explorers," he said. "Think of it as a gravity assist — a boost that may positively and forever change a person's course in life, and our footprint in the universe."

To seal the deal with their future recruit, NASA Planetary Research Director Jonathan Rail even placed a phone call to Davis at home to congratulate him on his interest.
