77-year-old woman found murdered in Montrose home

The village of Montrose, East Coast Demerara has plunged into a state of shock following the gruesome murder of a well respected elderly woman whose body was discovered on Saturday just after noon.

The body of Carmen Ganesh, 75 of Lot 121 Montrose, was found in a pool of blood in the kitchen area of the house she took care of. The owners of the house are reportedly overseas.

Information reaching the Guyana Times revealed that her daughters did not see her for the entire Saturday morning, hence they went to the house and called out to the woman. Their calls went unanswered and the gates were locked, therefore they could not get into the yard. Soon after, a grandson of the now dead woman was summoned and decided to scale the fence.

As he entered the yard, he saw his grandmother lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen and immediately raised an alarm. The Police was summoned and have launched an investigation into the gruesome murder.

The still devastated young man told this publication that he could not tell where on the woman’s body was bleeding. He explained that his grandmother worked with the owners of the house for quite some time, but after they left the country they entrusted the house to her. He added that the perpetrators probably thought that there was money on the property since the yard housed several vehicles, a speed boat and an outboard engine.

However, Sandra Ganesh, a daughter of the dead woman, told the Guyana Times that the surveillance footage showed the perpetrator exiting one of the cars in the yard and making his way into the house as the woman stepped out to pick flowers to conduct her daily prayers.

She stated that she last saw her mother alive on Friday evening before she went to bed. When she woke up on Saturday morning she claimed that she did not see the woman, but thought that she went to the market as she normally does on a regular basis.

After sometime, she stated that the neighbours contacted her and vented their concerns, claiming that they too did not see the woman. They called but no one answered. At this time she called two relatives and asked them to check on the woman. They were reluctant at first and thought that they should call the Police.

Nevertheless, they jumped the fence and realised that the back door was opened. As they looked inside, they saw the woman lying on her back and in a pool of blood. A knife was reportedly found close to the body. The β€œtari” with the fresh flowers were seen on the altar, which meant that the woman never started her daily prayers.

Police confirmed that the woman sustained a shot to the back of her head, and that her neck was tied with a piece of cloth. Crime scene ranks have since dusted the car for finger prints and more so, took the bloody knife as evidence.

When Guyana Times visited the scene, relatives of the dead woman had converged as ranks reviewed the recordings taken from the security cameras. The body was taken to the Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The Police have since secured an image of the perpetrator as they continue their investigations. The woman leaves to mourn her six children and grandchildren.

Montrose granny murder…Prints at crime scene don’t match suspect’s

August 10, 2015 | By | Filed Under News

– cops seek other man

Police have released a 24-year-old man who was detained in connection with the murder of Carmen Ganesh. A police source said that investigators compared the suspect’s prints with those that were retrieved from the scene, and established that they did not match. The suspect, who was once charged with murder, had also provided investigators with an alibi. Police hoped that they had nabbed the right man after finding two pairs of camouflage trousers, similar to the one worn by the killer, in the man’s home. Based on new information, detectives are now trying to locate another man who also fits the description of the person seen killing the pensioner and rummaging through her house. The pensioner’s battered body was found in her home two Saturdays ago by relatives who went to check on her after she failed to answer her neighbours’ calls.

A post mortem revealed that she died from blows to the head. Kaieteur News obtained the graphic surveillance camera recording of a man calmly clubbing, throttling and then kicking and stomping Mrs. Ganesh. It also shows the killer searching the woman’s apartment and talking to his dying victim through the entire ordeal which lasted almost one hour. He is also seen speaking to and gesticulating at his victim, who was lying on the floor. The suspect, a man of African ancestry, was wearing a pair of three-quarter camouflage pants and purple jersey, and what appears to be a pair of brown shoes. Judging from the killer’s calm actions which were captured on surveillance cameras in and around the Montrose, East Coast Demerara house, family members believe that the man was not there just to rob Mrs. Ganesh, but was calculating enough to ensure that she suffered severely before he finally ensured she was dead. Police had released photographs of the killer to the media, while Kaieteur News posted edited footage online in the hope that individuals would identify him. Family members are surprised that the killer, who had ample time to pack away loot, left behind items of significant value which were bound to attract the ordinary break and enter criminal. On the day of the murder, Police had detained a Montrose businessman with whom the elderly woman and her family had a dispute a few years ago. But the man was released last Tuesday after detectives could not find anything to link him to the murder. Mrs. Ganesh is among 20 women who have been slain for the year.

Is these Ministers clamoring for more salaries? The should be ashamed to hold down a position which they cannot handle.

Guyana is such a small country where everyone seems to know everyone and we cannot get a positive ID of this heartless beast. Guyanese need to become their neighbors watchers.  It seems like we have copy cats going after single old women. There is a pattern for these crimes and it's not obvious to the dunce police/detectives. Ramjattan should seek foreign help now.

Bai Django, even database can be altered . You just need a password and a computer. I am sure some of the crimminals can pay enough to get the job done.

Cops now sure they know Montrose Granny’s killer

August 12, 2015 | By | Filed Under News

Police are now certain that they know the identity of the man seen on video recording speaking to 77-year-old Danrasie β€˜Carmen’ Ganesh as he calmly beat her to death. Based on the footage they have studied and information that has been provided to them, investigators say the killer is an individual with previous break-and-enter arrests.

Detectives will almost certainly try to determine why he chose to slowly beat his victim to death; why he lingered at the murder scene to search the premises, and why he appeared to be unfazed by the presence of security cameras or oblivious to the fact that he was leaving his fingerprints at the scene. Prior to this, police had detained a 24-year-old man who they had previously suspected to be the man in the video footage. He was released a few days ago after investigators received leads about the new suspect and established that the detained man’s prints didn’t match those taken from the slain woman’s home. The suspect, who was once charged with murder, had also provided investigators with an alibi.
