Chairman of the Alliance For Change (AFC), Khemraj Ramjattan said he is confident of being elected the party’s next Prime Ministerial candidate for the upcoming General and Regional Elections.

When asked by reporters about contesting for the post, Ramjattan said: “I am confident.”

The candidates will be elected at the AFC’s Congress set for Saturday where over 300 delegates from the various administrative regions and the diaspora are expected to attend.

Ramjattan at a press conference on Wednesday morning at the Ministry of Public Security’s boardroom said he is unsure who else has indicated an interest in running for the post.

“I don’t know of any other person indicating an interest,” he said.

Current Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo has already indicated his interest in running again.

Ramjattan first announced his interest on May 3, after indicating same to his party.

He had said then, “it is going to be interesting and it is good to have inside political parties, the regular rivalries between leaders.”

The Congress is the party’s top decision-making body where a new Leader, Chair, Vice Chair and other persons are elected.

According to Ramjattan, the Congress will also review the AFC’s performance in the past two years.

“All the aspects of the organizational and structural work has been put in place and lots of nominees for positions, lots of delegates will be coming all the regions and lots of motions.”

Chairman of the Alliance For Change (AFC) Khemraj Ramjattan has expressed an interest in being the coalition’s next Prime Ministerial Candidate.

“I have already indicated my interest,” he told reporters at a press conference at his party’s Railway Embankment, Georgetown, office Friday.

He added: “It is going to be interesting and it is good to have inside political parties, the regular rivalries between leaders.”

Ramjattan said the election of the Prime Ministerial Candidate will be made at a national conference of the AFC set for mid-June.

The A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) faction of the coalition has already endorsed President David Granger to lead the coalition at the next elections.

On January 29, the Department of Public Information published an article in which Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo endorsed himself to retain the post.

Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo

Nagamootoo said his party, the AFC for which he sits on the National Executive Committee (NEC), expressed full confidence in the continued leadership of President Granger and himself.

“It is important at this time for, the party from which I have come, the Alliance for Change (AFC), to express confidence in their Prime Minister and to express this confidence that those people who voted for us are assured of our continued leadership,” Nagamootoo was quoted as saying.

Other political parties, including the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and the Liberty and Justice Party (LJP), are yet to announce their Prime Ministerial candidates.

General Elections is constitutionally due in 2020, however, the Caribbean Court of Justice is expected to rule shortly on cases relating to a No-Confidence motion.

Zara, yes he struggled for the working people in Guyana under the PPP, and under the PNC/APNU he betrayed the very people he struggled for for the sake of power.

Nagamootoo is as shameless and spineless as they come.  Burnham had sued and won a case against him for libel when he was a journalist, now he is sleeping with the enemy in the PNC camp, All in the name of greed and power.
