Gov’t, opposition representatives fail to settle GECOM list

This story is developing and will be updated.

Following another two-hour meeting today, representatives of President David Granger and Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo failed to find consensus on six nominees for the post of chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

Director General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon told reporters outside Castellani House that five of the 11 names submitted by Jagdeo have been shortlisted.

Harmon defined shortlisted as being put forward for further consideration. This definition did not find favour with the Opposition representatives who stressed that they needed to know which names were “not unacceptable” to the President as set out in the constitution.

Former Attorney General Anil Nandlall bemoaned the fact that the representatives seemed unable to say if the eight names suggested by President Granger were “not unacceptable” to him while Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan complained that the opposition was unwilling to discuss the eight names at all.

He stressed that the President has put all his cards on the table in relation to Jagdeo’s nominees but the Opposition Leader refused to do the same.

It would now be up to the President and the Opposition Leader to meet to settle on the list. It is unclear how the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) will react to this stalemate. The CCJ is to hand down consequential orders tomorrow on the matter of the unconstitutionality of President Granger’s appointment of Justice (Rtd) James Patterson as GECOM Chairman and on the upheld motion of no confidence.

During the initial hearing on these matters, one of the judges angrily demanded from one of the Coalition attorneys if Guyana parliament is a rubber stamp. Granger supplying the candidates and then meaninglessly deliberating which ones he doesn’t find fit and proper would be laughed at by the judges tomorrow. My guess is that Granger and all his minions are completely inept. They will find out again tomorrow so many people think they are lacking intellect.

As per the Constitution, it is the Leader of the Opposition who submits the list of candidates for GECOM Chairman to the President.

The President then makes his decision or he may have discussions with the Leader of the Opposition prior to making his decision.

It shows lack of knowledge  of the constitution by the PNC  for Granger to submit a list, bloody fool, submitting a list to himself or choose to ignore the opposition 's list. This is a sign of what to come, Military DICTATORSHIP. for this short period they enjoyed a taste of Sweet sugar mixed with some OIL, they would hate to loose it all. Maybe Ghana would be their place to escape after stealing Millions.

President David Granger is working tirelessly to ensure a good and just solution.  He is confident being re-elected along with Cde Nagamootoo.  Guyanese will give them full support.  Elections will be held in 2020.

The PNC have proven time and again that they cannot be entrusted with anything. When in power, they constantly betray the laws and people of Guyana and when they are not in power, they constantly try to make Guyana ungovernable through their riots and violent unrests. The CCJ is watching them closely. The CCJ is showing tons more integrity than those two Guyana Appellate Court fools.

Just suppose that Jagdeo were to relent and submit six of these fools for GECOM. What a dilemma that would place Granger in. He has a tendency to cowardly hide under his wife's skirt that he would find it extremely difficult to tell the other five that they are not fit and proper. They may just ask him why he thought they were fit and proper when he nominated them and not now and he would again run and hid under his wife's skirt. The Constitution is seeking to save Granger from himself hut he foolishly is opting for jumping off the cliff instead.

Here is a confused individual. He must be from the PNC.

  • Christian Louboutin is famous the world over for his red-soled shoes.
  • The footwear designer's creations are regularly seen adorning the feet of some of the most famous people on the planet.
  • However, Louboutin recently revealed he's sometimes "vaguely horrified" by how his customers wear his shoes.
  • But at the same time, he's always happy to see someone wearing one of his designs.

Christian Louboutin is arguably the most famous shoe designer in the world.

His iconic red-soled shoes, which typically start at around $675 a pair for heels, are beloved of Hollywood A-listers, royalty, and global megastars alike.

So famous is the French designer that his creations are regularly referred to simply as "Louboutins" - or "red bottoms," per Cardi B.

But if you are privileged enough to own a pair of the status symbols, be warned that the man behind the shoes may well be judging your look.

At a recent press event in London to celebrate Louboutin's upcoming exhibition at The Palais de la Porte Dorée in Paris, the designer told journalists he's sometimes "vaguely horrified" by how people wear his shoes.

However, he added that at the same time, he's always happy to see people wearing his creations.

The Frenchman explained that he believes it's up to each person to wear his shoes however they please, and that's "a nice thing," so as a designer "you should be grateful."

Louboutin summed up his approach with the French expression, "On propose, tu dispose," which essentially means that he as the designer offers his creations, and it's up to you what you do with them.

He explained that if he cared more about how his shoes were worn, he'd design clothes.

"If I thought people should wear a shoe in a very specific way, I would probably do a proposal for that," Louboutin said.

"But I'm not a clothes designer, I've never wanted [to be one], I never will design clothes. I'm really happy with my objects."

And, Louboutin added that sometimes he's actually "happily surprised" by how his creations are styled by wearers.
