Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan was honoured with the 24th Crystal Award in January’18 at the World Economic Forum in Davos for “his leadership in championing children’s and women’s rights in India”.  Khan received the award along with English singer Sir Elton John and Australian actress Cate Blanchett.

Khan is the founder of the non-profit organisation ‘Meer Foundation’, which provides support to female victims of acid attacks and major burn injuries through medical treatment, legal aid, vocational training, rehabilitation and livelihood support. The foundation also has established specialised children’s hospital wards and has supported childcare centres with free boarding for children undergoing cancer treatment. During the ceremony, the actor talked about his social initiative, which he has named after his father and the reason for the same.

Shahrukh Khan,52, cine star also thanked his late mother, wife and his daughter for inspiring him. Being his witty self, Khan requested a selfie with John and Blanchett in his speech, further concluding he has embarrassed his kids now.

These people profited off the poor and powerless in India and elsewhere their entire career...it is incumbent that they give back to society...this is a good cause.

He was once implicated, though I believe he later apologised, for promoting a skin bleacher creme to make dark skin people look like the modern day Michael Jackson.
