GECOM Chairman’s letter

Dear Editor,

I refer to Chairman of GECOM, Justice (Ret’d) James Patterson’s letter in Stabroek News, June 19, 2018. He is essentially saying that since the PPP/C skewed the commission in favour of East Indians in 1999 it is okay for him to do the same today. I remembered when we would point out the PNC’s shortcomings between 1992 to 1999, the party’s supporters would say that was the past. Focus on the present. Well, they had a point as the PPP/C’s regime moved away from 1992 and it was clear the previous government was going in the wrong direction. We eventually criticized the PPP/C and challenged that party electorally. The year 1999 was 20 years ago, by the way.

This Chairman’s letter reads like one coming from a barefaced partisan and bully. It is most interesting that President Granger found him fit and proper.

Yours faithfully,

Tarron Khemraj

He is neither a political scientist nor an economist.  He is a hypocrite and soup drinker extraordinaire who helped to install the PNC dictatorship.  Y'all don't listen to him.

Read the stuff that he writes.  It's all rubbish.  He pulls these crazy theories out of text books that have no relevance to the Guyanese economy.  And people like you who don't know any better are cheering him on.

Mits? To borrow a phrase from de Nero "You talking to me?"

Why you start insulting people this early morning banna?

The PNC is consolidating its position in power and part of that consolidation process is the present preparation for rigging the elections in 2020. Those who could not see this coming are now in a state of shock. The young generation who have no memory of the PNC's days in power are now experiencing something they heard and read about but never experienced. It's dictatorship in the making.

I don't blame him...why stick with one party...he works with whomever in power, that's the way it should be, not blindly give support to one party.

This benefits Guyana because your talent is available to whomever in power, for the benefit of Guyanese.

People need to support parties

No Tarron, pointing to a condition that existed without complaint or comment from your 'side' (any side?) in 1999 is NOT saying that it is "okay for him to do the same today" . . . he is calling hypocrites like you out! that's what he is doing

i am intrigued that you call the man a "bully" for THAT! or, maybe, you don't care for Patterson's use of the term "gonads" . . . is that right?

however,

Chairman Patterson, given the sensitivity of his position and Granger's idiotic handling of his appointment, should have sensibly declined to respond in kind to the racist dog whistling by Jagdeo and the PPP over GECOM hiring and the Vishnu Persaud affair in particular

this is of a piece with the PR failures of the coalition Gov't in dealing with calculated provocations and propaganda thrusts (NOT BASED IN FACTS) by the opposition and THEIR AGENTS to stymie the search for justice and CLAW BACKS in the prosecution of Jagdeo-era high crimes henchmen, and destabilize the country just enough with race/rig hysteria if they feel that they may lose the next election

the PPP is being helped in no small measure in peddling their insults to common intelligence by Granger's stubbornness and lack of a coherent progressive vision, APNU incompetence, and mediocre, sticky-fingered actors in the coalition who are clearly not ready for prime time

so imagine, after all this sturm und drang of the past year, neither Stabroek News, Tarron Khemraj, Bharrat Jagdeo, any in the PPP including Gocool Boodhoo hunkered down in Freedom House, can point to a SINGLE illegal act by GECOM (or the PNC) to support their facile, EMPTY, CALCULATED screams of FRAUD and RIGGING

these Robb Street characters in their 'critique' have lost all sense of proportion and are running away from reason with their eyes wide open . . . my God, the coalition has been in office barely 3 years!

Parking Meter rent seeking/drug bond tiefmanism notwithstanding, APNU/AFC have neither done nor attempted ANYTHING that is even in the same CRIMINAL universe as the Jagdeo/Ramotar horrors that still haunt the country

divining future crime, i believe, was the subject of a not-so-successful science fiction movie some years back

perhaps Mr. Khemraj, in dusting off his own dog whistle to alert the faithful of the PNC "bully," neglected to 'hear' the fearmongering, nasty, LYING, corrosive, initiating arrogance of Bharrat Jagdeo and the PPP divide-and-rule chorus, including the now infamous Stabroek News editorial cabal

the dispositive nature of oil riches is having a powerful, atavistic, tribal effect on heretofore reasonable, 'smart' people

we ah watch dem
