Guyana Badminton team makes good start to Caribbean tourney

The Guyana Badminton Team had a good start on the first day of the Caribbean Regional & International Badminton Championships which is being contested August 9-25, at the National Racket Centre in Tacarigua, Trinidad.
Most of the Guyanese players won their first round matches on the opening day Thursday.

Under-13 Boys Singles Round 2:
Vikash Mootoo (GUY) lost to Kye Isaac (TT): 21-10, 21-8

Under-17 Boys Singles Round 1:
Akili Haynes defeated Mattaus Joatchim (TT): 22-20, 21-15

Under-17 Boys Singles Round 2:
Tyrese Jeffrey (GUY) defeated Aidan Mootoosingh (TT): 21-8, 21-7
Akili Haynes (GUY) lost to Daniel Acosta (DOM): 21-6, 21-13

Under-17 Girls Singles Round 1:
Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY) beat Ria Hassanali (TT): 21-1, 21-8
Under-17 Mixed Doubles Quarter-Finals:
Priyanna Ramdhani & Tyrese Jeffrey (GUY) won vs Suriname: 21-15, 21-13

Under-19 Boys Singles Round 1:
Jonathan Mangra (GUY) defeated Aleem Ali (TT): 21-13, 21-14
Under-19 Girls Singles Round 1:
Ambika Ramraj (GUY) lost to Shemara LinDveld (SUR): 21-6, 21-7

Under-19 Boys Singles Round 2:
Jonathan Mangra (GUY) lost Shane Wilson (JAM): 21-14, 22-20
