The gold industry has moved from a shovel and spade to massive machinery in order to be profitable.

So you can only use a shovel and spade, so this is why you cannot be involved in it?  Handling machinery is beyond your expertise?

Rather than panicking every time they lay off IT workers you must do gold given that its so easy and lucrative.

You have to understand that the Blacks in the gold industry are few and far in between. Only a delusional section 8 recipient would make these types of stupid statements. The majority of mining workers are Amerindians these days. The Blacks find it easier to rob and main rather than spend extended periods in the bush away from the bright lights of the city.

As for myself, I have no interest in mining gold at my age, just as you are content to relax in your current situation. The difference being that I planned for the future while your hope lies in entitlement.

Funny when many Lindeners are in the gold fields. And what of Bartica a gold town. Mahdia and all of those places.  How come the PNC wins in the gold fields?

Rephrase this to say that YOUR family refuses to hire blacks!  It is noted that Amerindian workers are tremendously exploited. Bet that your family are some of the culprits.

In fact my family employ Blacks and they have to constantly keep an eye on them for falling asleep under a tree on the job.

So if gold is so easy why don't you go and do it instead of voting for Trump because you are scared that your job will be shipped off to India.

If Indians are so hardworking why didn't your family hire them.  It is clear that you come from a stock of racists so its no surprise that quality black workers would refuse to work for you all.

The black activists have genuine grievances. Afro-Guyanese have been shortchanged where land rights are concerned. But the activists have to be careful not to antagonize Amerindians. The activists must concede that the Granger administration will need crucial votes from Amerindians to stay in power beyond 2020. Meanwhile, I wish the activists well in their drive to redress an historical anomaly.

Eric is an ass. He is cozy with Granger so given the latitude to say a lot of stupid crap. He believes his credential as a historian ( faux from where I stand given what he said) and an ivy league grad means he is authoritative on the subject matter or who we are and what are our duties and obligations to each other.

Worse, he believes he is final arbiter on who suffered most. They add the term " Indigenous" to the name of their reparation organization when no ingenuous group is involved. This is because he believes in the myth that Africans sailed the seas a la the narrative of Vansertima and build all the great monuments in the west and seeded all cultures. He also believes that an ancient skull proved his point (Luiza woman).

He, and I presume Granger, by default believes that natural patrimony does not belong to Amerinds but to Africans. He advocates a cessation of land titles and especially do not think the Wai Wais and Wapishanas deserve land in Guyana. since he claims to know they are  19th century immigrants.

The idea that any of us owe Africans for slavery is bunk. Everyone suffered at the hands of the Brits and there should be no measure of who suffered most. If we give the default title to the Brits then we must admit they had treaties with the Natives they found there ( guess what, no Africans were there!) It follows then the brits left us an independent state the ceded the land equally to all of us here with specific notation as to what to do for treaty holders. In no commonwealth state is there precedent that Africans and by extension Indentured was to be given land differentiated per some arbitrary measure on who suffered most. If any land was to be given deferentially then the Brits could have done it when they owned it. We own it communally now and are not obliged to reapportion the land per some retrospective of a faux historian and retroactively allocate lands to one group over another.

Blacks had power for 28 years  but didn't do anything to improve their social and economic upliftment.  Instead they spent their time trying to Africanize Guyana and destroying the Indians.  They are all talk and no action.  now the PNC gained power once again but elected a Jackass for their Leader. I pity the fools.

And here you have Jagdeo now screaming that he is a black man.  I think that he believed that it was only Jamaicans and Bahamians in the crowd so that he could peddle this.

I hear this now. "Jagdeo a say dat he a wan blackman".  I mean Nagamootoo never called himself black and look at how you all behaved.

So you are agreeing with me?  Eh!

My family hires Guyanese Blacks but the need an additional pair of eyes to prevent them from sleeping on the job. In fact they have turned to hiring Trini and Jamaican Blacks in the gold fields. The Linden Blacks will work for a month then head out the backdam to sport. Only when his pocket dry will he come crawling back.

Unlike other parts of the Americas European colonists rareoy attacked Amerindians and in fact saw them as trading allies and slave catchers.  This being why a Maroon population didn't develop in Guyana as it did in Suriname.  In fact Amerindians sought sanctuary in Guyana as they fled from the Spanish and the Portuguese elsewhere.

To claim that indentures suffered as much as did slaves is pure bunk. Indentures were treated as HUMANS, even in inferior ones who should be exploited.

Slaves were treated as CHATTEL akin to horses.  Once the indentures served their contracts they were free.  I need not tell you that slaves didn't have those rights.

I don't agree that blacks need special ancestral lands.  What they need is regularization of land titles in places where ownership isn't clear.
