5 Relationship Goals You Can Learn From Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna Instead Of Hating It

Martini Shots, Bollywood, August 11, 2016, Authors: Shefali Saxena (Editorial Team), http://www.desimartini.com/new...-it/article35922.htm

10 years after Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, I wonder if we still think that love doesn’t deserve a second chance. K Jo’s bravest attempt at the movies so far, KANK almost got trampled under the hate that our sanskari audience showered over the film back in 2006.

You do not necessarily have to marry the first person you love! You can find your soulmate after marriage.

Before you raise your brows and curse the concept of this movie to death, come on give it a thought, wasn’t the movie much ahead of its time? Or should I say, it showed a certain reality of our society, hence it left people constipated and choked in the guilt of having done something similar in their own lives?

Well you have to agree with Karan when he said, “As for the subject of the film, these debates and discussions have begun because somewhere it is a reflection of the society and I have held the mirror high up. Some are trying to look into it to see themselves and some are trying to resist KANK as an emotional account of the reality of life.”

We don’t give love a second chance even in 2016, but we should!

Of course it comes with its own period of anguish and pain, but the relief of letting go off an unhappy relationship is far better than getting stuck in a bad one! KANK somehow voiced the same.

In a ten year old interview, Karan Johar said, “There was a time when I made films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which only spread love, but when I make a film like KANK which is closer to reality, then also some people have a problem. I am glad KANK is being discussed. It only shows a mark of success for the film.”

Learn to move on!

After a complex narration, he did manage to fix the pieces together. In fact Abhishek got married to another girl while SRK and Rani ended up together. Preity’s character however, chose to remain single.

Even a hero can be flawed!

There were quite a few nuances to the film which show that our audience doesn’t like change! SRK wasn’t a romantic hero; rather he was shown cheating on his wife. He was a flawed character. Rani too was projected as a wife who’s unhappy about something in life and finds solace in this flawed man who is also a father!

Nothing should shake you, not even heart break!

It was quite overwhelming to watch Riya's character whose husband cheats on her for a married woman, but she doesn't show a bout of weakness and manages her kid and family like a pro. Her independence and confidence become her strength!

Can't believe it's been 10 yrs since the release of KANK. Such a memorable film for me and very important too. I remember sitting in a preview theatre and watching Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and thinking.... He may be my childhood friend, He's like my elder brother, I really bully him, he allows me to get away with it. But how do I tell him that he just became one of my favourite directors!!
How do I convince him to give me an opportunity to work with him? I remember going on the sets of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and being overwhelmed and over-awed by the sheer magnitude of his vision and saying quietly to myself..." Some day, Abhishek, some day... Just work hard enough and earn his attention".
I still remember, I was at the success party for Dhoom when he told me that " a big overseas director" wanted to come offer me a film tomorrow. The next day, at the given time @karanjohar walked in with his LV bag and sat quietly. After 20 mins of polite conversation I said " KJ, so is this guy ever gonna show up? " to which he replied " I've been sitting here for 20 minutes!!!"
I'll never forget that moment. Never! It dawned on me that after all these years of hoping and wishing Karan had finally offered me a film he was going to direct. I suddenly became very emotional and hugged him. And promised him that I would not let him down, that I would give it my all. I hope I lived up to my promise to him.
Thank you Karan for trusting me with the character of Rishi. Thank you Pa, @iamsrk Rani @realpz for your endless patience and guidance throughout the film.
The entire crew and cast for providing me with such a great experience. I believe that you should do films that when you sit back and reminisce, that memory should bring a smile to your lips and a tear of joy to your eyes and your heart should glow! KANK is definitely one of those memories.
