The super salary propaganda is grossly exaggerated. 700K to 1M each month is no super salary in Guyana at present cost of living which is higher than many parts of Florida. You had just a few people getting US$7 K each month. I know some of the people talking about super salaries count the lil G$15K for being on boards as super salary. They spread the rumor it is US$. Serving on a board in Guyana is just public service, but some of them who post here on GNI just can't wrap their heads around the notion that people can serve for service sake.

If you were going by cost of living in Guyana the minimum wage should be equivalent to America.  However, Guyana is not America.  The salary structure should be based on peer group countries...do you disagree with this?

I agree. I don't like purchasing power parity as economists use, but that's the way to compare. You can pay people many ways and make them happy.

Peer group analysis is how it done for regulated utilities in USA.  What do you mean by this: You can pay people many ways and make them happy.

Sitting on boards is a gateway to lots of loot. It is never altruistic hence the reason only the same few were recycled by the PPP or the fact they had their kith and kin squatting on them. Ramotar sat on Omai board and during his tenure OMAI purchased Demba assets for 5 million. Four years later they resold it to BOSAI for 45. Surely that is not happenstance.

You might be surprised. Look Cheddi placed his driver on the board of a crucial commercial bank. The PPP never placed people based on skills and knowledge of a specific industry. Their job was essentially to carry rumors back to Freedom House. It could be they just could not put a proper valuation on the company. But the PPP was never concerned with public perception.

That driver was the exception but he still benefitted by the status. Ramotar was on OMAI for the loot.

Basically, it's not wrong. But if you appoint a Freedom House driver to sit on the GNCB Board, you must make sure that he can at least read and understand a balance sheet and income statement. I can tell you with certainty, because I knew that particular driver, that he knew nothing about accounting, let alone banking.

So he sat there for the sole purpose of being a reporter?...why not a more educated man if the premise is to hold it was his ability to report to the bosses the on going at the bank. I think it accrues to more than that ie into reward for services and as a reward it has to benefit the driver in someway.

Sadly, he was not the only one. The PPP appointed someone who didn't even complete primary school to sit on the board of the Post Office Corporation.

Cheddi Jagan was fascinated by what Fidel Castro did in 1959. When the victorious Castro entered Havana, he made the Havana Hilton his operations centre temporarily. He renamed the hotel Havana Libre, fired the hotel manager and appointed the bellboy as manager. Jagan kept repeating that story to us for years.

So TK if your statement above meant that if you give them good salaries they will not be corrupt you know that does not fly in Guyana.

I used best in the terms that he could have been much much much better.  Remember his square peg in round hole chants and Burnham constitution chants?  He fell on his own sword on those issues.  Anyway, the best president so far is Desmond Hoyte.  I ain't talking about his slow fia days.

Yes, Desmond Persaud was rite for the country. Gone too soon.

So lots of elitism here from people who talk about democracy.

Board members wanted; drivers need not apply (you are too dumb and uneducated.  WE don't need the consumers's viewpoint).

Was it Deming who said the people closest to the problem have insights into the problem but we don't ask them because they are the little people? And when the US did not listen to him, he took his ideas to Japan?

Is there a cane cutter on the new board?  Why not?

Chavez and Mudaro did a splendid job hiring people who are not elites. Look how that country is thriving these days .

Jay, a cane cutter on GuySuCo board will send the whole board overboard.

If he disagrees with the board this week, next week he will knock down a half El Dorado, hide his cutlass in his pants, and attend next board meeting.  Canecutters hold their own board meetings every Friday afternoon after getting pay, and some return home with one thumb less after the "discussions".

Management of a business is is not a democracy. Selecting the management team of a country is where democracy comes in. Management, even when subsidia  is taking into account, is always hegemony over ones niche because it is a position of competence

You have to have someone who could comprehend what's going on before he/she can contribute positively.  You just can throw people in for optics or spying.  The cane cutter does not need to be on the board, but their opinions should certainly be taken into account by the field managers and fed upwards.

Would be nice to say these things about how you feel about ordinary people without paper qualifications, when you are campaigning, so these buffoons would really know what you think of them.

Reminds me of the brand new agriculture Bachelor's degree graduate who stopped by and in gaffing with primary school dropout farmer Brown, said to him, "With the methods you are using, I would be surprised if you get any wheat from this field."

Framer Brown said, "I would be surprised, too, because that is barley."

Ordinary people are not a plenum of geniuses. Mediocrity is more the norm for most of us. Campaigning is by definition a means to sanitize the candidates list  of the idiots.
