What is the speed of the internet connection that you got? I am talking about the internet service provider connection, not the connection inside the house. If the speed is 100MB or less then just about any N compatible router will do. That is assuming your PC internal modem supports N.

Also keep in mind that  faster internet access does not mean faster data access between your PC and the website that you are on.

If I connect the laptop directly into the modem my speed test is over 90mbps. If I perform the speed test wirelessly, it is only 20 something.

That is well wrong.

Check what kind of wireless card you have in your PC. Then use that information to see if the manufacturer of the card has a new driver. Also check if they got a user interface from where you can select different wireless connection formats such as A, B, G, N. I have a suspicion that you are currently connected to the router from the PC via one of the slower options. I am connected to my routers (I use more than one for business security reasons ) at 300MBps. It is the top speed for the actual router as well.
