A more appropriate word would probably be "commemorate". I remember my grandparents on May 5 in a special way by reflecting on their suffering and the life they dreamt about but never got. Like the writer I don't think Indian Arrival Day should be celebrated.
Indian indentureship ended in 1917. I have to track down the exact date. That date should be commemorated just like the abolition of slavery on August 1, 1834.
