Vidya Balan breaks her silence on husband Siddharth Roy Kapur’s supposed infidelity

The point to be noted in the entire Vidya-marriage story is that nobody badgered the husband for clarifications or denials.

For quite some time now, reports about trouble brewing in this female actor’s paradise were floating around. Salacious deets about the actor’s “breakdown” and her high profile producer husband’s “growing fondness” for a female employee in his company were sprinkled generously at film parties. It was quite unnerving to see the actor headlining such gossip since she has mostly stayed away from it and has always let her work speak for herself.

Pat on the back then to Vidya Balan for finally coming out and addressing the rumours. In an interview to a leading newspaper, Balan categorically clarified that all is well on the marriage front. “We are happy with each other. There is no chink in the armour,” she said. The Kahaani actor also dismissed the link-up stories of her husband Siddharth Roy Kapur’s with his colleague. “I have no desire to comment on the structure of Disney. (Siddharth is the Managing Director of Disney India). I don’t know who these references are to, firstly, so I think it’s a figment of someone’s imagination,” she said in the interview.

Rumour mills went in overdrive mode when Vidya walked out of a big-ticket film project — her Kahaani director Sujoy Ghosh’s next Durga Rani Singh. She even pulled out of an international award show. Vidya claims she did this because of some “health issues” that need her attention. The actor is currently on a break before she gets into the publicity blitz for her upcoming, Bobby Jasoos, following which she will prep for the Mohit Suri-directed Hamari Adhuri Kahaani, which toplines Vidya with Emraan Hashmi and Rajkummar Rao.

The point to be noted in the entire Vidya-marriage story is that nobody badgered the husband for clarifications or denials. He is more in the media space these days because of his high profile job but when he’s talking film announcements or deals, the focus remains on the business.

Because Vidya is the star in the relationship — the face everybody knows — personal questions are a part of her business. She had to even clarify why she stepped out to vote with her parents and not Siddharth. Rumours of marital discord can be unsavoury for both husband and wife but somehow we relish grilling the wife more. It’s tough to be a female actor and navigate a career and relationship in the public glare. Somehow we are a bit unfair to our women.

Recently Preity Zinta took to her twitter page to express her life on the other side of the camera. Some of her tweets are worth reflecting on. Like: “Big crowds make me nervous and men grab me to touch me yet I cannot react because they are my fans! Agreed But am I not a woman too?” Or “I cannot have a pimple, put on weight or cover my face when photographers aim bright flashes at me in the dark and scare the hell out of me.”

In the same vein, when was the last time a male actor was grilled about his hair transplant job or recent weight gain? Now think about all the weight stories we lard on Parineeti Chopra and Sonakshi Sinha. In Sonakshi’s case, even her forehead was not spared. When was the last time such meanness was bestowed on a male actor? Think hard.
