And the whites encouraged them to do so. Apartheid was about blacks fighting blacks based on ethnicity. It was also about blacks, Indians and coloreds fighting each other. Every attempt was used to ensure that this was done and sadly Zulu ethnic leadership were often compliant with this, as they sought to preserve their own power.
The whites deliberately gave privileges to the Indians and to the colored, knowing full well that these groups, defenseless, would attract the frustrations of the blacks, the most oppressed of the group. An Indian or a colored could be a South African, albeit a suppressed group. Blacks were denied the right to be South African and denied the ability to even live in South Africa, except on a "temporary" basis once their labor was needed.
So yes I read up about South Africa.
