I know your argument would say until an election is held. The government can delay the election for a long time.

There is no need for speculation as to what the framers of the constitution had in mind when they wrote the constitution. That is subjective and can go down several paths depending on who’s doing the dreaming. There is an explicit timeframe for resignation and it’s clearly stated in 106.7. No need for wild speculation.
