Former Judicial Officer of the Eastern Caribbean Court, Fidela Corbin-Lincoln has returned home to become a Puisne Judge, to preside over cases in Guyana’s Supreme Court.

Corbin-Lincoln, who has almost 20 years of experience as a litigator, solicitor and judMarch 28 2018icial officer, was this morning sworn in as a Puisne Judge by President David Granger at State House.

She is the daughter of former Leader of the People’s National Congress Robert Corbin and worked in several Caribbean countries in the legal field.

The 41-year-old attorney told News Room that she felt it was time to return home and serve her country.

“I always wanted to eventually return home and the opportunity came and I thought it was a good time to come home and continue to contribute to the development of the jurisprudence. I was already doing that is the Eastern Caribbean but Guyana is home,” she said.

Corbin-Lincoln said she is looking forward to her journey ahead.

“The independence of the judiciary is our principle that guards against interference of the executive and legislative branches … the independence of the judiciary is necessary to protect citizens’’ rights and ensure that legal issues are settled fairly,” President Granger said.

He explained that Corbin-Lincoln’s appointment was done after receiving the advice of the Judicial Service Commission.

Corbin-Lincoln holds an LLB from the University of Guyana, an LEC from the Hugh Wooding Law School and an LLM in International Commercial Law from Kings College, University of London.
