It would seem some students are more dedicated to their studies. They seem to have little other activity,  that could cause personal problems later on.

It is this which can cause suicide down the road.  I do recall students in my time having nervous breakdowns at A levels because they spent the entire 2 years bashing the books, instead of enjoying the first year getting involved in extra curricular activities, and pacing their studying.

Stress and pure exhaustion led to some breakdowns.

I see Guyanese haven't learned much even as we have migrated so should know better. That kid isn't getting into Harvard if all he can discuss will be how many subjects he passed.   I will respect someone who excelled in 10 subjects, but also described other activities that they were involved with at school.
