What exactly is real democracy?

In short, it is the ideal balance of power in a system where the rights of the individual is maximized. Governments in such a system are accountable in all aspects of their political transaction via institutional oversight and the citizenry can exercise voice and political exit strategies based on what happens during their tenure. Our system suffers many deficits in this respect.
