You can convene 1,001 business summits but I doubt that Guyana will improve its ranking of 121 out of 138 countries noted in the 2016-2017 Global Competiveness Report published by the World Economic Forum. Not before the 2020 general election.

Fact is, the main private sector bodies are largely pro-PPP. Freedom House is doing its utmost publicly and secretly to recapture power in 2020. The PSC and the manufacturers' association would like a PPP victory because they had profited massively from PPP cronyism. PSC Chairman Edward Boyer is Mr Jagdeo's close friend. Indar supports Boyer.

It's nice to see el presidente in a business suit but, in the eyes of local business magnates he is not a fit and proper person to oversee the economy.
