Why have these Amerindians got English names?

Historically, they were converted to Christianity during colonial era in the various "missions". After that American evangelists got in the act too. This partly accounts for Amerindians speaking better English than many coastlanders. Missionary churches and schools.

That's very odd. They don't have such names in Suriname, which is only next door. They even wear traditional dresses at official functions. I suspect that these bucks have sold out.
