At that time, and ever since the brightest Guyanese have been fleeing Guyana so they had no choice but to employ Mr. Jagdeo.  In addition the PNC then was a de facto communist party so enjoyed having the communist trained economist.

Vasil Mitrokhin was a senior KGB archivist from 1948 to 1984 in the Soviet Union. He stole a tonne of classified documents and defected to Britain. He published those documents in two large volumes titled “THE MITROKHIN ARCHIVES: The KGB and the World”.

Guyana is mentioned in Volume 2. Not a word about Cheddi Jagan. One page focuses on Forbes Burnham. It says Guyana was the only anti-imperialist country in South America in 1976. It says Burnham shared some elements of Marxism-Leninism but concealed them for tactical reasons.

No wonder the Russians gifted the PNC regime helicopters, LADA cars, newsprint etc.

And all along everyone was duped that CBJ was thick with the Ruskies. Forbes was a sly fox!

In the late 1940s when Burnham was a law student in England, he joined the British Communist Party. A Jamaican communist named Richard Hart recommended Burnham when Cheddi Jagan was scouting for recruits for his planned political party.
