I wonder what the goodly gentleman had to say when Linden was reduced to ashes when most of the bauxite workers in that town were laid off? All his concerns were applicable? When the impoverished town protested against plans to increase electricity rates you all screamed all sorts of vulgarity and rolled in the blood of black people when the PPP gunned them down.
At that time I warned about sugar and the screams were "Indians not lazy like black man so if sugar shut down we nah care!"
Billions of dollars have been expended on sugar. Even wealthy T&T had to bite the bullet and shut down theirs. Barbados keeps its sugar because of its tourist industry. In fact that industry has shrunk as large acreages are now in housing or in other types of agriculture. That whch is left is there for aesthetic reasons as Barbados doesnt have the lush mountains of some islands so the specter of dry bush which replaces sugar in this places isnt appealing.
