Born and brought up in Delhi, Javed Ali started singing at a very early age with his father – a popular qawwali singer, Ustad Hamid Hussain. During an interview, Javed Ali said that his father used to sing kirtans, a form of a Marathi & Sikh prayer and a way to praise gods. Javed Ali's birth Name is Javed Hussain. Ghazal legend Ghulam Ali heard his voice and felt that Javed could become a great singer in future. The Ghazal maestro not only guided Javed, but also gave him chance to sing in his live concerts. As a tribute & honour to his guru (Ghulam Ali), Javed changed his name from Javed Hussain to Javed Ali.
