There is more to joining any army than the pay.  Its the personal discipline and training that could prepare a person for other security jobs, in retirement.  In 1970 I photographed a GDF wedding  and some of those members are retired from the army with a pension, but they also head security firms where they hire others.

Unfortunately, during our recent years in Guyana. Some Indians seems to see things for now and don't look too far ahead.  It must be due to their struggle to  support their families. But many young men spend their days liming at bus stops, waiting for the next drink. I am sure many would qualify for different departments in the army.

The last PPP government should have found a way to balance the Guyana military, among the races.

I've seen mixed races and even Ameridians in Military uniforms during my visits. But not one coolie.
