The Corentyne is the most Indian part of Guyana so any change in population largely reflects what that Indian population is doing.
In 1980 152k people lived in region 6, dropping to 142k by 1991. It was a scant 109k by 2012. MORE people fled under the PPP. BTW New Amsterdam's population remained flat.
This is incorrect, people didn't flee, they left for better opportunities in the US and Canada due to their sponsorship papers which were filed under the PNC regime, finally being approved. Even with the best Govt in the Guyana, people will still migrate due to the nature of the economy there.
