From what I know of the NYCEDC a mere "VP" lacks clout. In addition that agency is interested in big ticket items. Being a man of color he would have been struggling to maintain his career at that agency which favors those with strong ties to mainstream real estate interests.
Just be glad that he will bring knowledge about how the city really works, maybe more of this than any city council person that this district has had.
