Conflict of Interest is always "potential" until one acts on it.  If a conflict of interest is identified, there are several ways to address.  The most draconian, the person have to exit the role.  Alternately, you can put controls in place including curtail certain decision-making and oversight powers of the conflicted individual to mitigate the conflict.  In the end however, if the person is deemed to have become ineffective or the organization dysfunctional due to the controls, then it's only right the individual exit the role.

Annan Goolsarran should put forth a set of measures which he believes will be effective in addressing the conflict!  I would not just jump to his throat for raising the issue!

Why is he going after the woman and not the husband and his law firm?
