Three brothers among six held for Dennis Street carjacking

Police have captured six persons-five men and a woman-in connection with the recent hijacking and shooting committed on 53-year-old, taxi driver, Colin Ageday of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The suspects, three brothers-Michael and Seon Heywood of 52 A Field Sophia and Selwyn Heywood of Victory Valley Linden, along with James Bourne 19, of 589 B Field Sophia, and Winston DeHaarte of 596 D Field Sophia were captured yesterday after the police received information from a concerned citizen. Tresa Ramitt also of 596 B Field, Sophia is also being held for questioning in connection with the same incident.
Police are still trying to locate another of the Heywood brothers, Shawn, also of 52 A Field Sophia. He is Ramitt’s common law husband and was fingered in the gang that shot the taxi driver to his back around 19:45 hrs on Thursday on Dennis Street, Sophia.
After the men shot Ageday, they made off with his silver grey Toyota Premio HC 3612, which was recovered yesterday after the gang was busted in a B Field Sophia yard.
The vehicle which was already fitted with a different licence plate has been impounded by the police.
Yesterday, the Police, acting on information received from a civilian, went to a yard at B Field Sophia, where they captured the five men and recovered the stolen vehicle. Kaieteur News understands that the civilian saw Seon Heywood changing the vehicle’s number plate and alerted the police.
When the police arrived at the location they found the car that had a knife in the driver’s seat and a piece of stick in one of the passenger’s seat. The music deck was missing from the vehicle.
Kaieteur News was told that the police had to contact Ageday’s wife for a key to open the car.
This newspaper was informed that up to late last evening the suspects were being held at the Turkeyen Police Station.
On Thursday night last someone called a taxi service base in Kitty, Georgetown and requested a car in ‘A’ Field Sophia.
When Ageday showed up, two men entered his car and requested that he drive along Dennis Street to pick up another individual.
When the taxi driver arrived on Dennis Street, the men stuck him up and robbed him.
They then pushed him out of the car, shot him and made good their escape with the vehicle.
Ageday is hospitalized in the High Dependency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). He is said to be in a critical condition.
