the EU announced long before Jagdeo left office that the EU subsidies and guaranteed access would be removed and they even provided funds to achieve this transition.

Get with the program, announcement is different than the actual removal of the subsidy. The subsidy removal was gradual, buying Jagdeo time. That is why he made the blunder with Skeldon and the packaging plant, to try to minimize the impact. However as I noted, govt should not be in the business of running industry, and true they bought a lemon from the Chinese.

You do know that if you are trying to excuse Jagdeo by claiming that he didn't do anything, even though he was warned about the end of the subsidy you put him in a bad position.

Its like saying that it was OK for you to freeze in the cold because you didn't dress properly even though the forecast was for bad weather the week before. Trinidad shut down their industry even before that and Jamaica also decided to reduce the size of its industry, using mainly to provide raw material for its manufacturing sectors.

Jagdeo was told that EU was no longer going to subsidize ACP sugar and gave these countries funds. St Kitts took the money and helped their people (INCLUDING Guyanese living there) $$$ to find something else to so, and also compensated them for loss of their jobs.

Jagdeo screamed that Guyana isn't going to reduce its sugar industry and cussed out the EU for warning about a sharp reduction in prices.

I am glad to see that you now admit that Jagdeo blundered. His behavior is no more excusable that Granger thinking that all he needs to think of is oil. THAT is another blunder in the making.  But then only you think that Jagdeo is better.

To most these are two incompetent peas in a pod.  The only saving grace for Granger is at least he keeps his arrogance hidden.
