Some Estates had started cash crops, I know Wales and Uitvlugt did when I was there but it requires marketing  and labour intensive.

It is difficult to teach Old Dogs new tricks.

Canecutting is labor intensive. If they were entrepreneurial enough to plant cash crops then the Govt can assist in marketing and getting products to market. Much better than them subsidizing people in a dead industry, no?

Lots of those "old dogs" from Guyana are very productive up north. In the right environment, they are incentivized to learn new things. The govt. is clueless and simply has no idea of diversification or incentivizing these people. And I am speaking of both the PPP and PNC.
