One more COVID fatality, 281 new cases

The Ministry of Health yesterday said that as of January 1st, 2022, one more person who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has died and a whopping 281 new cases of the virus have been reported.

This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 1055. The latest victim is an unvaccinated female, 79, from East Berbice/Corentyne who passed away on January 2.

The Ministry of Health’s dashboard yesterday said that there have been 281 new cases of the virus. The surge in recent days would suggest transmission of the virus as a result of socializing over the Christmas holidays.

Five persons are in the ICU.
