West Dem residents protest Ramjattan’s visit

Angry residents of Zeeburg/De Willem on the West Coast of Demerara welcomed senior Government Minister Khemraj Ramjattan with slogans, protesting his presence in the community.
The Minister with responsibility for national security was scheduled to speak at the Saraswat Primary School’s graduation at 09:30h last Friday ( October 27, 2017).
Among the issues residents were protesting via placards were: President David Granger’s unilateral appointment of an 84-year-old retired Judge, Justice James Patterson as the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Chairman; the ongoing issues regarding salary increases for teachers; the removal of the $10,000 school vouchers, and heightened crimes in the area.
Villagers displayed placards voicing their displeasures with the ruling Administration. They also protested Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan’s visit to the community

In an invited comment to this publication, the Regional Chairman for Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), Julius Oliver Faerber, noted that “The country is plagued by serious problems inflicted by the Granger-led Administration. The most recent is the illegal appointment of the GECOM chairperson, who in our estimation is not ‘fit and proper.’ The RDC (Regional Democratic Council) at its last statutory meeting unanimously passed a motion, asking the President to withdraw the unilateral appointment of Justice Patterson.”

Faerber further stated, “We are watching in great amusement that Ramjattan – who is Chairman of the Alliance For Change party – remains a mute spectator, despite our nation’s school children were deprived of the $10,000 school voucher by this A Partnership for National Unity/Alliance For Change Administration to which he is perceived to have a major role. It is our perspective that he, therefore, has no moral authority to address children, parents and even teachers at any forum whatsoever. Teachers are in the process of organising protests in demand for the promised ‘good life’.”

Moreover, it was pointed out that recently in the communities of Zeeburg/De Willem, there have been a series of robberies targeting the local businesses. Residents, there are claiming that Police have made no major breakthroughs in locating the criminal elements and as such, they are left without justice and in continuous fear.

Angry residents of Zeeburg/De Willem? I ain't none of them with cutlass. They all wear nice clothe and shoes and walking on a potholed road.    If PNC were picketing Jagdeo, you wouldn't know where the mob of hooligans appeared from.

Granger has fanned out his ministers at graduation ceremonies and other events despite their portfolios and responsibilities are unrelated to the events; ranging from sports, graduations, local events, etc..
