Minister’s father sworn in as sole Commissioner for Lindo Creek CoI

80-year-old Former Magistrate and Judge, Donald Trotman was this morning sworn in as the sole Commissioner on the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into the 2008 Lindo Creek Masacre, at the Ministry of the Presidency.
Notably, the Commissioner is the father of the Minister of Natural Resources and sitting Member of Cabinet, Raphael Trotman.

 

The swearing in was conducted in the presence of State Minister, Joseph Harmon and  Chief Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan.

The CoI into the massacre which left eight persons dead will commence on February 1, and is expected to conclude in April.

Many commentators who spoke with Citizens’ Report have already proffered the view that the CoI report will not be credible and the fact that the sole Commissioner is the father of a APNU/AFC Minister. One oberver indicated that this firmly indicates that the Government is very worried and wants to control certain aspects of the inquiry, which would expose the involvement and complicity of senior officials of the current Administration, when they were in the Opposition.

Back in June of 2018, miners- identified as Cecil Arokium, Dax Arokium, Compton Speirs, Horace Drakes, Clifton Wong, Lancelot Lee, Bonny Harry and Nigel Torres- were brutally murdered and their bodies were burnt at the Upper Berbice River mining camp.
