We will be here beyond 2020’ –Harmon

By Bibi Khatoon

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon on Thursday expressed confidence that the Coalition administration will retain the seat of government at the 2020 General and Regional elections.

Harmon said: “Based on how we see things and the way in which the population is now responding, we will be here beyond 2020.”

He was at the time being questioned on the government plans for revenues from oil production which also begins in 2020, at his weekly post-cabinet press conference.

He noted that the projects will begin to be rolled out before the next elections and will cover a range of developmental projects that seek to ensure “our people enjoy this good life.”

“First of all, the infrastructure that has to be done.

“Secondly, the investments that have to take place in agriculture to make this country the breadbasket of the region.

“Thirdly, the investment in power for domestic use or for industry.

“Fourthly, our investment in our eco-system –that is to say the Green State Development Strategy (GSDS) which involves our tourism in the hinterland, our protected areas system; all of these things are what we see could benefit from oil in-flow and the people of course are our principal concern that the people are the ones that must benefit from all of this,” he outlined.

The other issues with respect to health and education, Harmon says will be part of an overall strategy which the administration will begin implementing before 2020.

As it relates to policies, he said “the policy is basically part of what we call our Green State Development Strategy. All of our developmental mode will fit into that.”

The Government has tabled a Petroleum Commission Bill which is currently before a select committee while the Bill on the Sovereign Wealth Fund is expected to be tabled in the National Assembly by the Finance Minister in the first quarter of this year.

Finally, minister Harmon has spoken with confidence that the coalition will continue to hold power after 2020 and beyond.

With the same token, the PPP should make a public statement of how they intended to win the next election. Things are getting interesting onwards.

Total BS ! The only way for APNU/PNC to remain in office is by rigging elections !! They have never ever fairly won an election ....never !!

Mits AFC nephew did mention the big plans the GOG has in store for the run up to the election. Let’s see!

They also intend to tempt a few notable PPPites to cross over with some real juicy incentives!

Harmon didn't say APNU/PNC will hold on to power,it's known they can't win any elections.

What he said, the coalition "APNU/AFC" will continue to hold power after 2020.They did win the 2015 election.Did they not ?

PNC has NEVER EVER fairly won any election ! If you are referring to the last Guyana general election, large numbers of PPP supporters were frivolously refused entry into polling stations in areas which were overwhelmingly pro-PPP !! You can scream, holler and write whatever you want but it is public knowledge that that is the truth so quit with your BS !! How do I know that ? I was in Guyana and saw the brutal, barefaced treachery of the PNC via the army and police with my own eyes !!!

The PPP can NEVER EVER lose any election that is free and fair.  At any time - past, present, or foreseeable future.

What was the result of the recount?

What did/would recount matter when the PNC goons and thugs, with shameless support from gun-toting police and soldiers brazenly and blatantly prevented thousands of PPP supporters from voting; yes ...thousands !! I hope that Granger, braaaad-nose Harmon and braaaad-mouth Greenidge will one day be brought to justice and hung by their scrotums for their treachery and dishonesty !!

That's not true.

I was not there so I cannot say first hand.  However, in today’s world, I’m surprised none of this appeared on social media.  Every kid in Guyana a phone with camera.

If this is true, it reflects bad on the PPP organization to allow an open air voter suppression to occur in their strongholds and it’s not captured and blasted all over social media.  This is no longer the 70’s!   All we hearing is recount, not mass voter suppression.

from all reports, the conclusion was the AFC converted enough to make a difference!  And we do know that Nagamootoo did have a following which was fedup of PPP corruption.

The PPP lost twice. Before that, the PPP coveted a seat from the AFC.

Yea!!  This is the arrogance why they lost and why Hillary lost here too.  I was following some of the blogs after elecyand there were young Indians who openly admitted voting for the coalition.

PPP had grown arrogant and corrupt.  That’s why they lost support.  Ask Ralf Ramkarran why he lambasted the politburo!
