She was at the top of her game a few years back with films like The Dirty Picture, Kahaani and then came a phase where her films did not do well, but actress Vidya Balan said that she doesn't feel the need to resurrect her career.

Vidya brought back the wave of women-centric films in the Hindi film industry. But her later films like Ghanchakkar, Bobby Jasoos and Humari Adhuri Kahani failed to create box office magic.

The actress is all charged up now as her film Te3n released on Friday. Later this year, her much-awaited film Kahaani 2 is slated for release.

"With every film you have hopes. I see hits and flops as part of career. It is not possible to have only hit or flop films. I don't think there is a need to resurrect my career in any way," Vidya told PTI.v "But I am hoping it (Kahaani 2) does well. I am doing work and I am happy about it. I don't get worried about the fate of a film anymore," she said.

The National Award-winning actress said that change is constant, as one can't be there up in the game always. "Two years back I was supposedly at the top of my game and then few films did not work. But these things are cyclical. When you look at the career of Mr Amitabh Bachchan, he has had so many ups and downs in his career but Mr Bachchan is Mr Bachchan," she said.

The Paa actress gets disheartened with failure, but she believes in focusing on doing good work.

"The only answer to all that (hit and flop) is just to keep working. I am a human being. I do feel bad and low about it (failure). But then you pull yourself out of it because tomorrow is another day and you have to do something else," she added.

Vidya will be seen as a cop in director Ribhu Dasgupta's Te3n, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

"In case of Te3n, everyone knows I am not there in the film throughout. I have not promoted the film, I am just doing interviews. I think today this much is required. If the producer feels if someone (actor) talks about a film and if it can bring audience to theatres, then why not do it. I would like to do it," she said.

For her role of a cop, the 38-year-old actress had initially expressed her desire to wear the police uniform. But the makers made her understand that it was not required.

"We all have seen policemen in life. We have enough references of cops both from real and reel life. I did not do any special research. I learnt to drive those old police jeeps. Sujoy Ghosh (film's producer) was my trainer, he helped me," Vidya said.

Actress Vidya Balan said that she has got much more than what she had hoped for. Vidya, who made her debut in Bollywood with Parineeta in 2005, is "grateful" for the opportunities that came her way.

"At one time in life, I wanted just one film release. I would have been happy if I had that one release but I can't believe I have been around for 11 years, done all the films and have worked with the people I have looked up to," Vidya told IANS in a telephonic interview.

Vidya has featured in films like The Dirty Picture, Paa, Kahaani, Ishqiya and No One Killed Jessica.

"I got great opportunities for myself as an actor and have got so much appreciation. I feel humbled and blessed," added Vidya.

Vidya has worked with stars like Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, Emraan Haashmi, Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan. But she is yet to share screen space with the Khan trio -- Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir.

Shah Rukh featured in a special song in Vidya's 2007 film Heyy Babyy.

Will she work with Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir?

"I don't know really. I don't think about it because I guess I am very happy with the kind of work I am doing. I don't think about what I haven't done or have yet to do," said Vidya.

Vidya's new film Te3n released today. The actress will also make her debut in the Marathi film industry with Ekk Albela.

"I always wanted to do a Marathi film. I have been born and brought up in Mumbai. I am very familiar with the Maharashtrian culture," said Vidya.

"I have grown up watching Marathi films on Saturday evenings. My mother used to watch them and I also watched a lot of them," Vidya said, pointing out how "somewhere in your work, you bring in the influences from your personal life."

In Ekk Albela, which is based on actor-filmmaker Bhagwan Dada, Vidya plays veteran actress Geeta Bali.

"The fabulous part is that it's a special appearance as Geeta Bali. Someone whom I find extremely charming and effervescent. It was recreating Ekk Albela, the songs of which have always been famous," said Vidya.

But why cameos?

"It's quite a coincidence that the two films that I am doing have a special appearance and are releasing in the same month. I think June is a special month," quipped the actress.

Actress Vidya Balan, who is all set to share screen space with veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah yet again in Begum Jaan, said that it's always exciting to work with him.

Vidya Balan told IANS: "I am looking forward to work with Naseer saab. Naseer and me have worked in completely two different worlds in the The Dirty Picture and Ishqiya and this again is a diametrically opposite world. It's always exciting and nerve-wracking to work with him."

She also added that she is "always nervous when I am working with him".

Begum Jaan is a Hindi adaptation of Srijit Mukherjee's Bengali drama Rajkahini, which is set against the backdrop of partition.

Mr Mukherjee will direct the Hindi version too.

The actress will also be seen in thriller film Te3n and she said that she loves thrillers.

"I love thrillers. I have done quite a few thrillers and fortunately they have all worked well for me. Te3n is again a different film and I have always enjoyed working with Sujoy," she said.

Produced by Sujoy Ghosh, Te3n is directed by Ribhu Dasgupta. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles.

Vidya aspired to a career in film from a young age, and had her first acting role in the 1995 sitcom Hum Paanch. She pursued a master's degree in sociology from the University of Mumbai and simultaneously made several unsuccessful attempts to start a career in film. She subsequently featured in various television commercials and music videos, and in 2003 made her feature film debut as the protagonist of the independent Bengali drama Bhalo Theko. In 2005 Vidya garnered praise for her first Hindi film, the drama Parineeta, and followed it with a leading role in the highly successful 2006 comedy film Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

This initial success was followed by roles in the romantic comedies Heyy Babyy (2007) and Kismat Konnection (2008) which met with negative reviews. The year 2009 marked the beginning of the most successful period in Vidya's career as she portrayed five consecutive roles to wide critical acclaim in the 2009 drama Paa, the 2010 black comedy Ishqiya, the 2011 semi-biographical thriller No One Killed Jessica, the 2011 biopic The Dirty Picture, and the 2012 thriller Kahaani. These roles established her as a leading actress of Hindi cinema.

In addition to acting in films, Vidya promotes humanitarian causes and supports the empowerment of women. She initially drew criticism for her fluctuating weight and "questionable" dress sense, but was later credited in the media for "not morphing herself to fit into any conventional slot".[1] She is married to the film producer Siddharth Roy Kapur.

Vidya Balan breaks her silence on husband Siddharth Roy Kapur’s supposed infidelity

The point to be noted in the entire Vidya-marriage story is that nobody badgered the husband for clarifications or denials.

Siddharth Roy Kapur with wife Vidya Balan. Siddharth Roy Kapur with wife Vidya Balan.

For quite some time now, reports about trouble brewing in this female actor’s paradise were floating around. Salacious deets about the actor’s “breakdown” and her high profile producer husband’s “growing fondness” for a female employee in his company were sprinkled generously at film parties. It was quite unnerving to see the actor headlining such gossip since she has mostly stayed away from it and has always let her work speak for herself.

Pat on the back then to Vidya Balan for finally coming out and addressing the rumours. In an interview to a leading newspaper, Balan categorically clarified that all is well on the marriage front. “We are happy with each other. There is no chink in the armour,” she said. The Kahaani actor also dismissed the link-up stories of her husband Siddharth Roy Kapur’s with his colleague. “I have no desire to comment on the structure of Disney. (Siddharth is the Managing Director of Disney India). I don’t know who these references are to, firstly, so I think it’s a figment of someone’s imagination,” she said in the interview.

Rumour mills went in overdrive mode when Vidya walked out of a big-ticket film project — her Kahaani director Sujoy Ghosh’s next Durga Rani Singh. She even pulled out of an international award show. Vidya claims she did this because of some “health issues” that need her attention. The actor is currently on a break before she gets into the publicity blitz for her upcoming, Bobby Jasoos, following which she will prep for the Mohit Suri-directed Hamari Adhuri Kahaani, which toplines Vidya with Emraan Hashmi and Rajkummar Rao.

The point to be noted in the entire Vidya-marriage story is that nobody badgered the husband for clarifications or denials. He is more in the media space these days because of his high profile job but when he’s talking film announcements or deals, the focus remains on the business.

Because Vidya is the star in the relationship — the face everybody knows — personal questions are a part of her business. She had to even clarify why she stepped out to vote with her parents and not Siddharth. Rumours of marital discord can be unsavoury for both husband and wife but somehow we relish grilling the wife more. It’s tough to be a female actor and navigate a career and relationship in the public glare. Somehow we are a bit unfair to our women.

Recently Preity Zinta took to her twitter page to express her life on the other side of the camera. Some of her tweets are worth reflecting on. Like: “Big crowds make me nervous and men grab me to touch me yet I cannot react because they are my fans! Agreed But am I not a woman too?” Or “I cannot have a pimple, put on weight or cover my face when photographers aim bright flashes at me in the dark and scare the hell out of me.”

In the same vein, when was the last time a male actor was grilled about his hair transplant job or recent weight gain? Now think about all the weight stories we lard on Parineeti Chopra and Sonakshi Sinha. In Sonakshi’s case, even her forehead was not spared. When was the last time such meanness was bestowed on a male actor? Think hard.
