US based Guyanese gets 4 years for trafficking 3 pounds of cocaine

Forty-eight-year-old, Warren McKi, was on Thursday morning sentenced to four years in prison by Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Providence Magistrates Court following a guilty plea to trafficking three pounds of cocaine, which he claimed was a means of supporting his son through college in realizing his dream career in Medical Science.

Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor Konyo Sandiford presented the case which alleged that the defendant was an outgoing passenger heading to JFK Airport in New York on Wednesday (August 30, 2017) when he was busted by members of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) with 1.252 grams of illicit substance concealed in a false back of his carry-on luggage.

A synopsis of the facts detailed that the defendant’s luggage was placed on a scanner which highlighted two strange images appearing to be hidden in the back of the luggage, arousing suspicion of the ranks. Subsequent searches revealed two packets of cocaine in behind the false wall.

The accused was further nabbed with $2,667 US, which CANU motioned for seizure.

The remorseful father of three sought to justify his actions in court by explaining that his constrained financial situation prevented him from fulfilling his duties to his family and as such was driven to resort to drug trafficking.

Taking into consideration McKi’s early guilty plea and remorse before the court, Magistrate Scarce handed down a four-year sentence along with a fine of $3.3 M.

1- If he hadn't get caught, would he have continued to trafficking cocaine?

2- Do you buy into his remorseful plea and truly believe that money from the sale of the cocaine was to support his son through college?

I am critical of Granger myself, but I have to disagree with you, Drugb. If you feed your brains with bananas, it will become bananas even when it's apple season.

But during the PPP reign you folks were comfortable with the afc/pnc screaming that ppp was running the drug trade?

Not me, sir.
