Turbo knockout tournament kicks off tomorrow night at Education Ground

Less than a month after the final whistle blew in the Petra/Corona Beer Invitational football tournament for teams in Georgetown, Petra is back with another tournament to help keep fans buzzing and players running.

This tournament, the Turbo Knockout competition, will see sixteen (16) teams battling for the top prize of $500,000 in straight eliminators beginning tomorrow evening at the Ministry of Education’s ground on CARIFESTA Avenue.
Friday’s opening match-day will be a historic double header between Police FC vs. East Veldt at 18:30hrs in the first game then Pele FC vs. Northern Rangers in game 2 from 21:00hrs, playing under the recently installed $3.8 million lights which was funded by Petra with support from their corporate sponsors.
Police FC on the heels of an emphatic triumph in the Corona Beer Cup, will be rearing to continue their success. They will be led by their Skipper, Dwain Jacobs who was the MVP in the previous tournament. The talismanic striker was the hero in Police’s Corona beer final last month against GFC at home, smashing in a hat-trick in the 4-0 championship victory. Meanwhile, the youthful East Veldt side will be looking to have better structure within their play as they strive to keep improving their football.
Sparks are set to fly when Pele FC and Northern Rangers match skills in the feature match tomorrow night as both clubs have relatively young squads with quick legs. Rangers made it to the semi-finals of the last tournament, thanks to striker Sunil Logan and company who were in form and helped the club in their unbeaten run to that stage before losing 3-0 to GFC. Rangers will definitely fancy their chances of bettering Pele in their knockout match tomorrow night.
