Trump leads Clinton in Fox News poll

By Nick Gass
  05/18/16 06:24 PM EDT

Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump leads Hillary Clinton in a hypothetical general election matchup, according to a Fox News poll released Wednesday evening.

Trump leads Clinton 45 percent to 42 percent, within the poll’s 3-point margin of error. In the same poll conducted in April, Clinton led by 7 points — 48 percent to 41 percent.

Story Continued Below

Even so, neither Trump nor Clinton scored very high when voters were asked about certain personal characteristics.

Asked whether Trump is honest and trustworthy, 40 percent of registered voters surveyed said he is, while 57 percent said he is not. Asked the same of Clinton, 31 percent said she is and 66 percent said she is not.

As far as whether they think Trump has “strong moral values,” 37 percent said they thought the phrase encapsulated Trump, while 58 percent disagreed. For Clinton, 40 percent said she has strong moral values, while 57 percent said that would not be an apt description.

More than seven in 10 — 71 percent — said the phrase “will say anything to get elected” describes Clinton, while 65 percent said the same of Trump.

Clinton holds double-digit advantages among women (50 percent to 36 percent), African Americans (90 percent to 7 percent), Latinos (62 percent to 23 percent) and those under the age of 35 (46 percent to 35 percent).

Trump, meanwhile, has the upper hand among independent voters (46 percent to 30 percent), men (55 percent to 33 percent), white voters (55 percent to 31 percent), those without a college degree (45 percent to 40 percent), and varying majorities of voters 35 and older.

Democratic challenger Bernie Sanders, meanwhile, leads Trump 46 percent to 42 percent. Sanders led Trump by 14 points in the April poll — 53 percent to 39 percent.

The poll was conducted May 14-17 via landlines and cellphones, surveying a national sample of 1,021 registered voters with an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

This is exciting news.

Trump numbers will increase substantially after the first debate with Hillary. Hillary has serious credibility issues.

Chief will have a heart attack.

Fox News poll == usually an unreliable source.

As stated on pertinent posts ... Hillary Clinton will receive the most votes in the November 2016 elections and become President of the US_of_A in January 2017.

I heard that Sharaukh Khan and Amitabh might be invited.

Indos in America are backing Trump, they are even praying for him to win so that he can rid the world of terrorism. Cobra posted a picture of Indians  performing Pooja for Trump to win.

It is about time that Trump brings back pride and dignity to America.

The name of the game is nobody like polls when it's against them. Even if CNN conducted the same poll with the same result, people will still doubt it. Go to the race tract and see people's expression when the horse they bet on is losing. It's not a good time to talk to them.

General Election polling becomes more meaningful after the Conventions at the end of summer. Until then the narrative is how weak a candidate Hillary is (Bernie will not be the Dem nominee and his continued fight will only weaken Hillary); and how enticing it is to complain about things you do not know - like jobs, income inequality and immigration - which attracts Republican voters.

It is worthwhile remembering that the States' Electoral College votes determine the Presidency 270 to win and turnout is critical. So watch the ground game "unexpected" fall events. We know a lot about Hillary. You wonder what will the Clinton machinery highlight about the Donald that we don't know.

I agree with you.  I think both camps are preparing their ground game.  Problem is Hillary have a major trust issue and it's getting worse.  The electoral college determines and only have an inconsistent outcome in a close race.  If the spread is more than a point, the popular vote and electoral college will fall on the same side!

I tell you this, people are still underestimating Trump's appeal!  Bernie Sanders need to be careful or he will lose credibility.  He is going after Hillary with all guns blazing.  Not sure he can just roll over and tell them now support Hillary.  There is real bad blood between Bernie's came and the Establishment.  Trump is playing soft ball with Bernie and will turn and try to attract his supporters.  I can see Trump picking up some of Bernie agenda items and incorporating and people will actually believe him more than Hillary.

Trump is calculating, cunning and clever.  His approach and thinking is non-politician and people like and trust that.  The list of High Court candidates tells people he is serious and will select qualified candidates.

Trump will throw a bit of gravy for everyone, Liberals, Conservative, Evangelicals, Jews, Blacks, others and will pull many into his camp.

All the bad things thrown at Donald Trump are likely to be ignored by voters. You will find people whose instincts about what Trump says about women, Mexicans, Muslims, (un)free trade, Rosie O'Donnell, Megyn Kelly, McCain (loser war hero according to Trump), his dick, etc., are like "eeeoowww", will simply ignore all that. In spite of the truth that technology and globalization are contributing to income inequality and loss of jobs, Trump is articulating in a crude way what pleases Republicans, most Independents and right-leaning Democrats. Never mind that he cannot change that.

If he gets a weak candidate - like Hillary - the demographics notwithstanding, and no matter how much you hate the guy, you have to consider the serious possibility of a President Trump. Trump is no Conservative as he likes to point out. He's a Republican and he's redefining that party. He's more to the left of Hillary on overseas intervention and left leaning on a lot of social issues AND religion.

What you have to understand about the Donald is that he is not saying what he will do policy-wise.....and that interestingly and maddeningly enough is what voters like. He will tell you he will consider all sides and hire bright people and make decisions as par for the course. In other words he's being non-ideological. Hillary needs to pick up on this and distance herself from the "Establishment" - and that's not just a cliche. She's not presenting anything attractive now - only more of the same, including Bill. Trump will take advantage of that perceived weakness (her enabling Bill's cavorting, hence she's anti-woman and he, Donald, is pro women for pointing  that out). She needs to shake the Wall St thing and the Iraq invasion thing. Bengazi and the email stir will not be her downfall, if she is not the President. It's just that she's unable to be something, anything....that's not like what's been seen before....like Barak Obama in 2008....like the Donald in 2016.

Will I vote Trump? No, but that doesn't mean I must lose my objectivity on the 2016 race.

Every once in a while, you gray matter shows signs of life, or is it you pretend to play dead.

I told you guys six months ago the Trump appeal has legs and will hold, and even in the General.  The things that shock people, are the things that make him appealing.  He say what comes and that is refreshing for the electorate, even though it sounds politically incorrect.  People had enough of this correctness, basically lies covered in political glossiness.  Trump's family and female workers are his biggest asset to get through all the "anti-female" mud being thrown.  His biggest defenders are his female employees and and female relatives.

You watch how Trump shredded his Republican opponents branding them with one word derogatory names that stuck and came to represent them.  "Crooked" Hillary has legs.  He will build around that and bring her down.  Trump is a master in the media and will put forward an agenda where everyone has something.  He will get each group to seek out what's in it for them and not what they don't like.

The relentless Sanders run has created a mess for Hillary and Trump will use it to his advantage.  There is no way Sanders can take back or reconcile his positions with Hillary and tell his flock to run to Hillary.  In fact Sander's and Trump's positions seem more aligned than Sanders with Hillary.  Everyday, it looks less and less Hillary will be president.

Maybe in November I will be eating humble pie, but it looks like Trump's chances are growing by the day.  It's the Queens boy for the Kings Palace!!

To give credit to Hillary, her strategy to bring Trump to his knees is to swift boat him. In the slow month of August - just like Bush did to Kerry in 2004) the Democratic Super PAC Priorities USA plan to hammer Trump in key States like Ohio, Virginia, Florida and Nevada. Trump promising to defund Planned Parenthood, Megyn Kelly's blood coming out from wherever, a woman's fat ass, etc. Clinton will stay away from direct atytack on Trump as that means she will have to get in the mud. She will ignore the enabling of Bill 's role in the Lewinsky case. Remember the Donald has a far greater unfavorability rating than Hillary - in fact the worst of any presumptive and actual nominee.

We will see who will swift boat who.

All them shyte you talking, that's the liberal media trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator.  Get this, it ain't working!

Trump will directly attack Hillary on both the personal front with "crooked Hillary" and the policy front with all the mess-ups, flip-flops and judgement errors over time.  The record is there.  Hillary will be forced into Trump's play-pen and she will get mauled!!
