Top Brandz Corona Invitational football… ‘Tigers’ devour Black Peal 13-0; Camptown needle GFC; Police trounce Beacons 14-1

The Petra organised Top Brands Corona Invitational football competition continued on Wednesday evening at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground with three matches.
Watched by a fair size crowd Western Tigers, led by five goals from the crafty Andrew Murray, devoured Black Peal 13-1 and Police Football Club overpowered Beacons 14-1 in one-sided games while Camptown squeezed past host GFC 1-0 in the other match.
In the opener, Tigers were ruthless in ripping Black Peals to shreds. The boys in yellow and black dominated possession and fired shots to goal at will as they roared to a 7-0 lead at half-time.
Black Pearl spent most of the opening stanza in their own half and even when they managed to get the ball they quickly lost it as the West Ruimveldt based Tigers demonstrated far superior skill and ball control in soggy and slippery conditions.
While most of the first half goals resulted from kicks outside the box, a header from Linden Pickett from a corner was perfectly placed to the far post, the defenders and Custodian Nicko Gayner had no chance as it left Black Peal in disarray trailing 0-4 in only 22 minutes of action.

Hubert Pedro opened the scoring in the 3rd with his first goal before Devon Millington hammered in a shot from close range to find the back of the nets in the 10th minute. Murray was in belligerent form and waltzed past two bemused defenders in the 15th minute to beat Gayner, who endured a nightmare between the uprights.
After Pickett’s clinical header, the Tigers would produce two more goals before the half time whistle was blown with Dwayne McLennon scoring in the 33rd minute and Pedro hitting in his second goal four minutes later, completing a commanding half for the Tigers.
The second half began just as the first half with the Tigers’ Goolie at times sitting on the ground with nothing to do as Mark Grittens netted in the 56th minute before McLennon booted in his second goal in the 59th minute.
Murray toyed with Black Pearl’s porous defense to score again in the 52nd, 79th, 80th and 83rd minute but as the match progressed, the intention decreased as both teams began to tire and the match ended 13-0.
The second match, which commenced at 19:00hrs, was keenly competed as Camptown got past GFC 1-0. Oziel Small found the back of the nets with four minutes to half time, the final score remained unchanged.
The feature match saw Police FC romping to a huge 14-1 win over Beacons who were down 8-0 at half time. Quincy Holder scored four goals (7th, 37th, 39th, 45th) in the first half while Athio Wallace netted in the 21st minute and three in the second (47th, 70th, 78th), Dwain Jacobs (72nd, 81st), Jermaine Granderson (13th) and Stephan Ramsey (34th, 84th, 42nd) doing the damage for Police. Christopher Galloway in the 43rd minute scored the consolation goal for Beacons.
The competition continues today with three second round games, Pele opposing Eastveldt from 17:00hrs, Santos taking on Flamingo at 19:00hrs and Riddim Squad battling Northern Rangers in the main match. (Sean Devers)
