The USA abandoned Afghanistan after the USSR withdrew. Muslim fanatics fell all over themselves and wailed that the USA abandoned them.  Bin Laden worked with the USA against the Russians, who were the common enemy.

There is a lot of suspicion of India and the west by the Hasaras of Afghanistan. Even though thousands of Hazaras from Afganistan were given refugee status by Western countries and India yet many of them continue to hate the west and India. I tried to work with them but failed. The word spread by their leaders was that man look Indian so don't trust him. The west and India should let Iran advocate for their Hasara Persian brothers and sisters and instead concentrate on building relationships with the Tajiks and Uzbeks of Afghanistan.
